The Verse (The Book of Lamentations 3:22–23, NKJV)
Through the Lord’s mercies we are not consumed, because His compassions fail not. They are new every morning; Great is Your faithfulness.
What keeps your mind busy when the world finally goes quiet? What weighs on your heart when nobody else can hear your thoughts? Life has a funny way of piling things onto our shoulders — worries, disappointments, regrets, responsibilities, unanswered prayers and seasons that feel far too long. Before we know it, we are surviving rather than truly living.
Yet even in the middle of exhaustion, God gently reminds us that hope is not dead. The writer of Lamentations penned those famous words during a season of grief and devastation. Everything around him looked broken. The future seemed uncertain. But right in the middle of sorrow, he remembered something powerful: God’s mercy still showed up with the sunrise.
“New every morning.” Not every year. Not every once in a while. Every single morning.
That means today carries fresh grace for tired hearts. Fresh strength for weary minds. Fresh hope for people who feel like they have wandered too far from where they once were spiritually.
Sometimes adulthood steals the wonder from our souls. We become so focused on surviving that we forget how to dream, laugh, worship or simply breathe deeply and thank God for the gift of being alive. We lose that childlike faith that once trusted Him so easily. But God has a beautiful way of awakening what life tried to bury.
He still meets people in the waiting.
He still comforts people in the hurting.
He still brings light into dark places.
And perhaps one of the greatest acts of faith is choosing to praise Him before circumstances improve.
Praise in the working.
Praise in the waiting.
Praise in the blessing.
Praise in the breaking.
Not because life is always easy, but because God is always faithful. There is something powerful about lifting your head again after disappointment tried to bend it low. There is something healing about worshipping while your heart is still tender. Praise shifts our focus from what is falling apart to the One who holds all things together.
If you are still breathing today, then your story is not finished. God is not done restoring, rebuilding, healing and renewing. There is still purpose ahead of you. Still joy to discover. Still goodness to witness. Still songs left to sing.
So do not allow discouragement to silence your worship. Do not let fear convince you that hope has expired. Morning is coming — even if the night has felt long. Awake, O my soul!
Lift your eyes.
Take another step.
Keep praising.
God’s faithfulness has carried you this far, and He will not stop now.
Prayer
Father, thank You for Your mercies that are new every morning. Thank You that even in difficult seasons, hope still rises and Your faithfulness never fails. When my heart grows weary and my thoughts become heavy, remind me that You are near.
Awaken my soul again. Restore joy where life has drained it away. Help me to keep trusting, keep dreaming and keep praising You in every season — whether I am waiting, rejoicing, grieving or rebuilding.
Teach me to recognise Your goodness in both the small moments and the significant ones. Let gratitude rise in my heart simply because You are faithful and I am held by Your love.
Today, I choose to lift my head and praise You for the breath in my lungs, the hope before me and the promise that You are still working all things together for good.
Amen.
